Legionella control log. A printable log for the routine water hygiene checks a facilities team carries out between a competent person's visits — flushing, temperatures, tank inspections and what was found.

This is the routine monitoring record, not the risk assessment or the written scheme. Assessing a water system and deciding what must be monitored is work for somebody competent in water hygiene, and neither this sheet nor FacilityOptix does it — what the platform does is hold the assessment, the regime and the readings together and show you what has been missed.

What is on the sheet

  • System details, the risk assessment it follows, and who the responsible person is
  • Outlets on the flushing regime, with a row per outlet and a column per visit
  • Temperature monitoring at sentinel outlets, recorded as measurements rather than as pass or fail
  • Cold water storage tank inspections — condition, lid, insect screen, temperature and debris
  • Calorifiers, expansion vessels, showerheads and any other item the risk assessment names
  • Findings, actions and a block recording what was referred back to the risk assessment

Why this record matters

Legionella control is a written scheme carried out, not a certificate held. The risk assessment identifies what has to be done; this log is the evidence that somebody did it, week after week, which is the part an inspection actually examines.

Temperatures are recorded as measurements and never as a tick. The figures the scheme works to come from the current ACOP and guidance and from the system's own assessment, and a log that offers 'within range' as a box has thrown away the only data that would show a system drifting. A number can be re-read later; a tick cannot.

The outlets that matter most are the ones nobody uses. A rarely-used shower in a disabled changing room is exactly where the risk sits, and it is exactly the outlet that drops off a flushing regime when a building changes use — so the log asks which outlets are on the regime and why, not just which were flushed.

This is a soft download and honestly so. Assessing the risk, writing the scheme and deciding what has to be monitored is work for somebody competent in water hygiene; this records the routine part a facilities team carries out between their visits.
